Bruce Cassidy Reveals Why Nicolas Roy Was on the Fourth Line in Vegas
Las Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy was recently asked about newly-acquired Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nicolas Roy and his potential.
Nicolas Roy has the potential to be a stud with the Toronto Maple Leafs, although we won't know for sure until he starts playing games with the team.
Overall, the forward was a fourth-line center with the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Last season, he had 31 points in 71 games, averaging 15 minutes per night.
However, his opportunities in Vegas were limited, and there is a sense that the 28-year-old Quebec native could very well take a leap next season.
Bruce Cassidy on Nicolas Roy
This was echoed by Roy's now former head coach, Bruce Cassidy, who made an appearance on 'Leafs Morning Take' on Wednesday.
As Cassidy explains, the Golden Knights were a deep team, and it forced Roy down the pecking order. However, the team always knew that Roy was better than that.
On our team, he was predominantly a 4th line centre because we always had guys ahead of him, but I know that he's capable of more..
Whether or not this comes to fruition for Roy, still remains to be seen. Based on the Leafs' depth chart, the forward would be a third-line center.
What's interesting is that the Leafs are targeting another center right now in Jack Roslovic. One has to wonder what is going to come of that pursuit.
Overall, the Maple Leafs need forward depth, and the bottom-six was a huge point of contention for them throughout last season.
Ultimately, it will be up to head coach Craig Berube to set the lineups and make sure Roy is being used in the most optimal way possible.
