The Leafs are set to take on the Avalanche tonight in Toronto, and Craig Berube bluntly stated that he has no idea how his team will slow down Nathan MacKinnon.
The teams previously met on March 8, when the Avs mounted a dramatic third-period comeback from 4-2 down to notch a 7-4 win over the Leafs at Ball Arena.
Valeri Nichushkin stole the show with his first career hat trick, and Nathan MacKinnon added two of his own to lead Colorado past one of the East's top teams. Toronto will be looking for revenge this time around, so the Avs will need to be on their toes.
Colorado has been on fire since the trade deadline, going 8-1-1 in their last 10 and outscoring teams 41-20. Their special teams have also been clicking, with 10 power-play goals on their resume.
After that fireworks victory over Toronto, they shut out Chicago 3-0, illustrating they can blow out anyone in multiple ways.
Craig Berube acknowledged just how dominant MacKinnon is
Leafs coach Craig Berube paid tribute to
MacKinnon's dominating play by saying he doesn't know how his team is going to stop him tonight, a confidence-lowering comment towards his team.
"Well, I don't know. But if you find out before the game, you can let me know."
- Craig Berube
Both squads will go with their usual starters because they are preparing for the playoffs. If anything, their recent games would suggest that this is how their lineups could look during the playoffs.
