Craig Berube Delivers Crushing Comments About the Toronto Maple Leafs' Defense

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube had some very harsh words about his defense after a terrible loss against the Sheldon Keefe-coached New Jersey Devils.
Last night was a second loss in a row for the Toronto Maple Leafs as this time around, they fell to the New Jersey Devils, a team that they dominated last season.
It was an ugly loss in which the entire team was bad. Anthony Stolarz played poorly, while the offense was absolutely anemic. Meanwhile, the defense was bad as well.
After the game, Craig Berube had no choice but to be brutally honest. He had some choice words for Auston Matthews and the entire top line.
Craig Berube won't spare his defense
However, Berube refused to spare anyone in his post-game comments. In fact, his defense got it the worst, as he had some very valid criticisms.
Overall, he felt as though the reads were bad, the turnovers were bad, and for the most part, the defense wasn't aggressive around its own crease.
Our D are just standing in there, jumping in there, not reading what's coming out. We're late sometimes with our reloads and one of the biggest things is turnovers.. We got to be smarter.
All of this is similar to what Anthony Stolarz had to say about the defense a few nights ago after a loss to the Seattle Kraken.
With that in mind, it remains clear that the Toronto Maple Leafs are a team in disarray, and something needs to change very fast.
If they cannot get it together, then there is a very real chance that this team ends up missing the playoffs, which would be an absolute disaster.
For all of the hardcore Maple Leafs fans out there, you have to be at least a little bit worried about how poorly this team is playing right about now.
