Craig Berube Makes Eye-Opening Comments About Dennis Hildeby's Disastrous Night
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube had some interesting comments on Wednesday night after a disastrous performance from goalie Dennis Hildeby
Dennis Hildeby allowed four goals on 18 shots last night against the Columbus Blue Jackets in a horrific 5-1 loss.
As a result of his poor play, the rookie goalie was demoted back to the AHL while Matt Murray was recalled to serve as the backup going forward.
Craig Berube on his goaltender Dennis Hildeby
Immediately after last night's game, however, Craig Berube was actually quite charitable to his goaltender, despite the bad play.
He noted that it had been a while since Hildeby got a start and that when you're battling, these things are going to happen.
«Well, he wants to be better. He has to have the first one, but whatever. He hasn't played in a long time, either. He is trying to battle. I am not going to sit here and blame the goalie. It is a team game. We have to be better. We had to score some goals. We didn't.»
At this point, it seems like Hildeby's time with the Toronto Maple Leafs this season as come to a permanent end.
Anthony Stolarz will be back soon which means Murray and Hildeby will be the two goaltenders on the Toronto Marlies.
Based on these six starts this season, Hildeby still needs some time in the Minors and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Thankfully, Joseph Woll has been so good that it has completely counterbalanced any poor goaltending from the backups.
Once Stolarz returns, it will be interesting to see who eventually becomes the starter as soon as the playoffs start.
