Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe got injured against the New York Islanders, and Craig Berube has an update on how long he will be out for.
Jake McCabe has easily been one of the Toronto Maple Leafs' strongest soldiers this season, as he has been able to amass a rating of +26, which is the best on the entire team.
This is a defenseman who fights in the trenches and also gives you some offensive production here and there, making him especially well-rounded.
However, the Leafs got some bad news about McCabe following their game against the New York Islanders on Saturday. He left with an injury and never returned.
Today at practice, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was able to reveal a timeline for McCabe's return. If one thing is clear, it is that he will miss time.
Jake McCabe's injury timeline has been set
Berube claims that McCabe's injury is going to keep him out of the lineup for about a week, which is about what you would expect for a minor lower-body injury.
Unfortunately, this is an action-packed week for the Leafs. They play the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday, and the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
If McCabe is going to miss all of these games, then the Leafs are going to find it difficult to get anything going as far as consistency is concerned.
McCabe is a necessary part of this team, and if he is not going to be on the ice, then the Leafs are in for a world of trouble. Especially if guys like Brandon Carlo aren't available.
The team remains in striking distance of a playoff spot. However, if they string together some losses this week, then their playoff hopes may just begin to evaporate.
This is the team's most important week of the season, and things are going to get very interesting.
