Sidney Crosby and Dan Muse were left staring at the same problem after Game 3: a playoff loss, an embellishment call, and a series suddenly on the edge.

Pittsburgh fell 5-2 to Philadelphia, and the Crosby penalty became one of the biggest flashpoints of the night. It was the first embellishment call of his career.
The play came in the first period. Garnet Hathaway caught Crosby up high near a faceoff, Crosby went down, and officials turned what looked like a Penguins power play into 4-on-4.
That is why the reaction hit so hard. In a one-goal playoff game early on, that whistle changed the tone and wiped out a chance for Pittsburgh to press its lead.
Crosby did not hide his frustration after the game. He said he did not understand how he ended up with embellishment and added that it was hard to understand, even if the team had to play through it.
Muse was even sharper. He said the Penguins did not have a single embellishment call all season and made it plain that Crosby does not embellish.
The outside read on the clip is where this gets messy. Some saw a sell job. Some saw a high stick that should have stood on its own. Either way, the call became bigger because of what followed.

Game 3 did not turn only on that one moment, but Pittsburgh never really got control back. Early in the second, a scrum led to 11 penalties, and Bryan Rust wound up with the extra roughing minor.
That was the sequence Muse pointed to when he said everything changed. Philadelphia got the power play, Trevor Zegras scored to tie it 1-1, and the building tilted hard from there.
"I don't know how Rusty ends up with the extra [penalty] out of all of that. I don't know how I end up with the embellishment... you gotta play through that."
The Flyers kept coming after that. Rasmus Ristolainen and Nick Seeler scored, and Pittsburgh went from protecting a lead to chasing a 3-1 hole in a game it badly needed.
That is what made Crosby's response matter. He was not only arguing a call. He was talking like a captain who knew one whistle and one penalty sequence had cracked the whole night open.
The harder truth for Pittsburgh is that the series picture now looks brutal. The Penguins are down 3-0 and heading into a game where there is no room left to absorb another swing like this.
So yes, Crosby snapped back at the officials. Given the situation, that was never going to be the quiet part of the story.
But the real damage is bigger than one argument. Pittsburgh now needs Crosby to answer with more than words, because the next loss ends this series.
