Elliotte Friedman confirms the Toronto Maple Leafs are contemplating a season-changing decision

The Toronto Maple Leafs are going to be without Chris Tanev for a while, and according to Elliotte Friedman, the Leafs are contemplating something large.
Chris Tanev was one of the Toronto Maple Leafs' most important players last season. Unfortunately, this season, he has dealt with a plethora of injury problems.
It was recently reported that Tanev would have to get surgery, and that it was likely for the team to go the rest of the season without his services.
This is not ideal for the Leafs, especially when you consider how they have consistently had injury woes and remain out of the postseason.
For general manager Brad Treliving, the Tanev situation has created some real problems for the Leafs, and now, a solution must be found.
Will the Toronto Maple Leafs replace Chris Tanev?
According to Elliotte Friedman, with Tanev out for some time, it would now appear that the Maple Leafs are looking at adding a defenseman.
There is still some contemplation being done, but for all intents and purposes, it really does seem like the Leafs are ready to take the plunge.
I think Chris Tanev is gonna be out a while; we'll see what Toronto decides to do here, do they go and say alright we're sticking with what we've got or do they go out there and look for another defenseman
Getting a right-handed defenseman with Tanev's defensive responsibility is going to be a tough task, and Treliving would be relying on a miracle with that.
One has to figure that the Leafs are going to have to try for something. Whether or not there is anyone available remains to be seen.
The Leafs' season hangs in the balance, and the fanbase is hoping for Treliving to pull through, against all the odds.
