Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin is supposedly retiring at the end of this season, and as a result, the Toronto Maple Leafs might be able to make a move.
Evgeni Malkin is a player who is on track for the Hockey Hall of Fame, although before that can take place, he needs to retire first.
With himself and Sidney Crosby entering the twilight of their careers, there has been lots of speculation about when these Pittsburgh Penguins legends will call it a career.
Not to mention, with the Pittsburgh Penguins on pace for a rebuild, it has felt like an inevitability that the veterans would want to jump ship.
Evgeni Malkin set for NHL retirement
According to Josh Yohe of The Athletic, Malkin is set to retire at the end of this season. Simply put, this is going to be his farewell tour.
Of course, we will have to wait for Malkin to actually make an announcement, but for now, it seems like it is real.

How the Toronto Maple Leafs can take advantage
If Malkin truly is retiring, then the Penguins will have to enter rebuild mode. That means guys like Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell could be on their way out.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have shown interest in Rust, and if they know the Penguins are in for a fire sale, then they just might make a move sometime soon.
A first-line right-winger is exactly what this Leafs team needs right now, and a phone call to Kyle Dubas might be coming soon.
