James Reimer's Shaky Performance Against Detroit All But Seals His Maple Leafs Fate
James Reimer is attempting to make the Toronto Maple Leafs on a PTO, and as it turns out, a shaky game against the Detroit Red Wings threatens his chances.
With Joseph Woll on a leave of absence, the Toronto Maple Leafs decided to bring in former goaltender James Reimer on a PTO.
For a lot of fans, this was a really cool thing for the Toronto Maple Leafs to do, especially when you consider how the goaltender is in the twilight of his career.
As it stands, the Maple Leafs have yet to make an official decision on Reimer, and with the regular season just three days away, the team opted to give the goaltender an opportunity on Saturday.
Is James Reimer done with the Toronto Maple Leafs?
Reimer allowed four goals on 28 shots against the Detroit Red Wings, making for a very shaky performance that resulted in an overtime loss.
As Kevin Papetti pointed out, this was a difficult outing for Reimer, and one that displayed a great irony given what happened in the 2013 NHL Playoffs.
Reimer lets in two goals in the final three minutes and the opponent ties it. The opposing top line centre then scores the OT winner.

Based on this performance, it does feel as though Reimer's opportunity with the Maple Leafs has officially come to an end.
While he could get signed and sent down to the Toronto Marlies, we really don't see a world in which Reimer plays for the Leafs to start the season.
At this stage, we would rather see Dennis Hildeby back up Antony Stolarz to start the season, as he deserves the NHL experience.
Only time will tell what the Leafs do with Reimer, and whether or not he gets some regular season playin time with the Leafs.
