Jeremy Lauzon didn't hesitate when asked about John Tortorella, and the new Golden Knights head coach already has buy-in from his blue line.

The timing matters. Vegas just moved on from Bruce Cassidy, and that kind of change can shake a room if the message doesn't land right away.
Lauzon went the other way.
He addressed the noise around Tortorella head-on, brushing off the reputation and pointing to something players care about more inside a locker room: honesty.
That's the hook here. Not systems. Not matchups. Trust.
Vegas didn't bring Tortorella in to tweak the power play. This is about identity, pace, and accountability across all four lines.
Lauzon's comments signal that at least part of that message is already getting through.

Tortorella's tone already shaping the room

The Golden Knights aren't rebuilding. This is still a team expected to push, not drift.
So the coaching switch comes with pressure. Immediate pressure.
Tortorella's style is direct. Players know where they stand, whether they're in the top six or battling for minutes on the third pair.
That can create friction. It can also create clarity.
Lauzon leaned into the second part.
He pointed out that reputations don't mean much until you experience the coach day-to-day. That's a subtle but important shift away from outside narratives.
Inside the room, that matters more than anything said on the outside.
For Vegas, the blue line is a key pressure point. Structure, gaps, puck movement, it all starts there.
If a defenseman like Lauzon is already comfortable with the voice behind the bench, it gives Tortorella a foothold.
And let's be clear, this won't stay easy.
Once systems tighten and ice time gets cut, reactions change. That's where Tortorella usually draws a hard line.
But early signs? They're positive.
Vegas needed a jolt. Not just tactically, but mentally after the Cassidy era.
Lauzon's reaction suggests the room is at least open to that jolt.
Now comes the real test: when results swing, and the bench starts making tougher calls.
