Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas made a big trade today with the Vancouver Canucks, and it was one that Maple Leafs fans would have loved.
There is a lot of animosity from Maple Leafs fans towards former GM Kyle Dubas, who didn't always make the best moves as the team's boss.
Now, he is the GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and things have gone rocky. The team has regressed, and some feel like he is wasting Sidney Crosby.
However, Dubas made a move today that has fans around the NHL talking. It is one of those trades that should make rival GMs shake in their boots.
Kyle Dubas makes a huge move for the Pittsburgh Penguins
Essentially, the Penguins just fixed their goaltending situation by getting themselves a netminder who carried the Abbotsford Canucks to a Calder Cup win.
The Penguins have acquired goaltender Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-round pick.
Now, the Penguins officially have a goaltender who can carry the load next season, even if he still has some developing to do.
Ultimately, the Leafs never won a trade like this with Dubas as the team's general manager. Having said that, some Penguins fans are probably feeling cynical about him finally winning a deal.
Only time will tell whether or not Silovs works out better than Tristan Jarry did, who is also on the verge of being traded.
We are reaching a point in the offseason where things will get very boring, which for many is going to be pretty sad.
If you are a Leafs fan, you will be hoping for Brad Treliving to work a bit of magic.
