The Toronto Maple Leafs are in a tough battle with the Colorado Avalanche, but during the game, a lucky break went their way, leading to an interesting goal that led to a major lead over the Avalanche.
Coming into Wednesday's clash with the Colorado Avalanche, the Toronto Maple Leafs knew that they'd need something to go their way if they were to pick up the victory, and in the third period, that's exactly what happened.
With the Leafs on the penalty kill in the third, the puck was fired down the ice by Toronto, and instead of a simple clear and change, something incredibly unique happened.
On the play, the NHL official took a spill, and as a result, the puck was stopped, ending up on the Maple Leafs stick, with veteran
Steven Lorentz taking advantage with the massive goal.
Unsurprisingly, plenty of fans weren't happy about the way this play went down, especially as it gave the team a 2-1 advantage late in the game in what has been a very hotly contested battle thus far.
While those fans will always have something to say when the bounce goes Toronto's way, this one was simply an accident that led to the Maple Leafs getting the puck, with Lorentz needing to wire home a great shot to beat the goaltender after all of this anyway.
Ultimately, there's nothing that can be done about a play like this, as it was just a lucky, one-in-a-million play that ended up bouncing Toronto's way, and with the game very tight late in the game, sometimes it's the team that takes advantage of a play like this that comes out on top.
