Toronto Maple Leafs Joseph Woll had several health issues last season that gave the Toronto Maple Leafs faithful cause for concern into the playoffs and may have been the cause of their demise during the postseason. Fast forward to this season, fresh off a newly signed contract where the ink has barely dried, the twenty-six-year-old has only played in one preseason game thus far.
While there is still a week and a half before the 2024-2025 regular season, head coach Craig Berube had some encouraging comments about who must be the front-runner to be the starting goaltender this season.
Now and then it's difficult to read between the lines of what a coach actually means when they comment on a player and while Berube may be doing what he can to guard what many believe is the starting goaltender, it feels a little suspect that Woll has only played that first game.
While it's likely that Woll has been told he will be starting the bulk of games when the puck drops on the team's regular season on October 9th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, fans are hopefully feeling a little less on edge as the team brought in a perfectly capable goaltender in Anthony Stolarz in the event Woll is hampered by anything this season.
It's imperative to remember that the National Hockey League season is a marathon and not a sprint and with the idea that Berube is the new guy behind the bench it's conceivable to believe he's doing his due diligence with everyone else he has available to him.
