Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner has been saying a lot to the media as of late, and it feels like his agent, Darren Ferris, is looking to inflict damage.

Mitch Marner is now a member of the Las Vegas Golden Knights, and for Toronto Maple Leafs fans, this is the worst-case scenario.
This past week, Marner added insult to injury when he spoke to Mark Masters about how some Maple Leafs fans were harassing him and his family after the playoffs. He even said he needed security at his home to protect his family from the "crazies."
It doesn't take much reading between the lines to understand that a huge reason why Marner left the Leafs was due to his inability to handle the media or the fanbase.
To make things even worse, the forward's agent, Darren Ferris, spoke out against the media and the fans, saying they bring nothing but constant negativity.
In the eyes of some fans, this is a coordinated attack on the fanbase as a means to get back at the Leafs one last time, and perhaps dissuade other players from ever signing in the Six. In our view, it's proof that the Leafs are better without Marner.

The Toronto Maple Leafs won't miss Mitch Marner as much as you think

Sure, Marner had 102 points last season. But when the playoffs hit and the going got tough, the forward was a no-show, just like he had been in previous years.
Furthermore, the forward was allergic to accountability during the season and the playoffs. This was also true during his interview with Mark Masters, where he delivered nothing in the form of personal reflection.
Ultimately, it was about time that Marner left the franchise. Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. Keeping Marner would have been a case of insanity.
It might sting for the Maple Leafs at first, but it's hard to argue that this won't be better for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the long run.
Once this year's playoffs roll around, the Leafs will have the perfect opportunity to prove that the problem was always Marner.
