Mitch Marner Torched by Toronto Analyst Following Embarrassing Playoff Exit
Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is being torched by a notable analyst following yet another excruciating Game 7 loss in what may have been his final game in Toronto.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are once again headed home for an early summer after another humiliating loss in a Game 7, this time against the divisional foe Florida Panthers.
Toronto had been embarrassed in Game 5, losing 6-1 and falling into a 3-2 series hole. But they managed to give their fans hope with a gutsy 2-0 win in Game 6 in Florida,
setting up Game 7.
Marner, who is a pending UFA and very well may have played his last game in Toronto, was seen barking at his teammates in the 2nd period after the Panthers took a 3-0 lead and is facing considerable heat for failing to make a difference.
He's also being taken to task by Toronto analyst Sid Seixeiro, who brought up
Mikko Rantanen in comparison.
If you recall, the Maple Leafs actually approached Marner and asked him to waive his no-trade clause so that he could be packaged as part of a deal to the Carolina Hurricanes to acquire Rantanen.
Marner declined, and Rantanen instead was traded to the Dallas Stars. Right now, he's arguably the frontrunner for the Conn Smythe Trophy with 19 points (9G, 10A) in 13 playoff games, including consecutive natural hat tricks.
He's helped the Stars to series wins over the Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets, and now hopes to help Dallas over the hump in the Western Conference Final against the Edmonton Oilers.
Meanwhile, Marner very well could be wearing a different sweater next season.
