Nazem Kadri is interested in returning to the Maple Leafs, but only on one condition

Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri is having a solid season so far, although trade rumors are starting to rear their ugly head, and the Leafs can take advantage.
Nazem Kadri is having a solid season with the Calgary Flames, with eight goals and 24 assists in 45 games. Sure, he's not on pace for 30 goals, but he contributes at a high level.
Last summer, there were all sorts of rumors concerning Kadri and his trade potential. Some felt like a trade was a sure thing, although others noted that the forward had no interest in going anywhere.
The Flames are going nowhere fast, and there is this real sense that he could be on his way out. After all, the Flames cannot afford to pay guys if the results aren't there.
Nazem Kadri and the Flames could be on the outs
According to Darren Dreger, with the Flames struggling, Kadri trade rumors are back on the table. However, there is one caveat here, and it is an important one.
Essentially, Kadri is willing to be traded, as long as it is to a Stanley Cup contender. At 35 years old, it is completely understandable that he would feel this way.
My sense with Nazem Kadri is this, that if an opportunity was presented to go to a top contender...he'd be willing to listen; he's not going to push it; the intensity around Kadri is definitely heating up
When you think of contenders, you may not think of the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, they are on a nine-game point streak.
After a 5-0 win against the Vancouver Canucks, it is very clear that this Leafs team is ready to go on a deep run. They would love another center, and Kadri would be perfect.
Given their recent play, you could make the argument that they will be contenders. With that in mind, perhaps Kadri will consider a reunion.
Unfortunately, it would cost the Maple Leafs a pretty penny. Regardless, it is something worth considering going forward.
