NHL Insider Reveals Brad Marchand's Next Salary Could Break the Bank
Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand will likely be going to free agency very soon, and this could lead to a pretty shocking price tag thanks to his production.
Brad Marchand is coming off a season with 51 points in 71 games. In fact, his season isn't even over yet. He is still playing in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Edmonton Oilers.
Once these Finals are over, he is expected to hit the free agency market, and there are going to be numerous teams looking to sign him for the right price.
One team that would love to have him on the roster is none other than the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have been a bit desperate for high-level veteran talent.
How much will Brad Marchand make next?
Unfortunately, according to TSN's Chris Johnston, it is going to cost the Leafs a pretty penny. We say that because Johnston foresees Marchand eliciting huge offers.
Right now, he is making over $6 million per season. However, despite his age, he is keeping his production up, and with the salary cap increase, some teams will be willing to spend a lot of money.
He's gonna be the rare player at age-37 who gets a raise. He's been in Boston and now obviously with Florida, playing for a contract paying him just over $6M.
From what I've heard, I wouldn't be surprised if he got something like $8M for his next deal, look, rising cap and if you had any doubts taking him out of Boston; he was such a Bruin through and through, embodied the ethos of that organization, but you're seeing what he's doing in Florida.
He's the oldest player, and what he's done it's been a pretty impressive performance.
I think he will have quite a few options, and while the door isn't closed on Florida completely, I don't think they can afford to pay him I that price range, because they have a decision on Bennett, Ekblad, other contracts to work through.

Brad Marchand at $8 million per season is going to be hard to swallow for a lot of teams out there, and we aren't so sure that teams will accept that number.
However, if the Leafs lose Mitch Marner and John Tavares becomes a question mark, then we could very well see a development with Marchand.
Marchand has already stated that he has an interest in playing in Canada, so the Leafs could very well be on his list.
Only time will tell whether or not the veteran wins another Cup and stays in Florida, or leaves almost as quickly as he was traded there.
