Nick Robertson is Reportedly Thinking About Leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson has been fighting for a major role with the franchise, although his fourth-line status has led to numerous trade rumors.
Nick Robertson and the Toronto Maple Leafs haven't always been on the same page about his role with the franchise.
Even last summer, both sides had a contract dispute that lasted until the start of the season. Once the forward got on the ice, he found himself stuck on the third line.
When the playoffs came around, Robertson got even less ice time. It was a sad reality, and this past summer, both sides continued to quarrel over money.
Now, Robertson has received a raise on a one-year deal that some feel is a bit underwhelming. Fans want to see what the forward can do, although, once again, it seems as though he is being relegated to the fourth line.
Nick Robertson's future with the Toronto Maple Leafs in question
Robertson doesn't find this assignment to be sufficient, and as a result, he is behind the scenes making some tough decisions. According to Chris Johnston, a trade seems like a very likely option.
Interestingly enough, the Maple Leafs would rather not go this route, as they believe Robertson could still provide a ton of value to this franchise.
I still think he's very open to moving on; the Leafs still see something in him
The Robertson situation is going to be one that many fans will continue to watch out for over the coming weeks and months.
When the season starts on October 8th, we will have a much better sense of what the Leafs have in store for him and if he will get any kind of promotion.
If he doesn't, then perhaps a trade request will be in short order. It would be an unfortunate end to this saga.
For now, both sides will simply need to take a wait and see approach, and not jump to any conclusions.
