A.J. Greer is out three games, and Paul Maurice now has a lineup problem after the NHL handed down its decision Sunday.

The league confirmed the suspension following Greer's boarding penalty on Connor Zary, closing the door on any short-term appeal or delay.
This hits immediately. Florida doesn't get a buffer here. Greer is unavailable right away, forcing Maurice to adjust his bottom six before the next puck drop.
That matters more than it looks. Greer had carved out a steady role on the penalty kill, taking hard minutes and defensive zone starts.
Now those shifts don't disappear. They get reassigned.
Maurice either leans heavier on his top nine or plugs in a depth call-up who hasn't handled that workload.

Penalty kill takes the first hit

Florida already gave up 2 power-play goals on 7 chances in that loss to Calgary, and now one of their regular penalty killers is gone.
That's where this suspension bites first. Structure on the PK isn't just systems, it's trust. Greer was part of that rotation.
Without him, expect Maurice to double-shift key forwards in defensive situations, especially late in periods.
That adds wear. And it can leak into five-on-five play when legs start to go on a tight schedule.
There's also the tone factor. Greer plays on the edge. He finishes checks and keeps opponents honest along the boards.
Take that out, and Florida's fourth line loses some bite. That changes how opponents match up against them.
For Calgary, the result stands. Connor Zary drew the penalty that shifted momentum, and the Flames took full advantage that night.
For Florida, this moves forward. Three games without a regular piece isn't season-breaking, but it forces decisions Maurice didn't plan for.
And in a tight race, even a short suspension can tilt a week.
