Pierre LeBrun is one of the most connected insiders when it comes to NHL news, and recently, he made a huge declaration about Connor McDavid and the Maple Leafs.
Free agency in 2026 could prove to be extremely chaotic, especially if Connor McDavid decides to test the market once the summer comes around.
The forward wants to win a Stanley Cup, and if the Edmonton Oilers won't give him one, then he will have no choice but to go elsewhere, once and for all.
There has been lots of speculation about which team would be the frontrunner to acquire McDavid. Of course, Toronto Maple Leafs fans are hoping it's them.
The Toronto Maple Leafs want Connor McDavid
While the assumption has been that the Maple Leafs would take a run at McDavid, there have been no real confirmations that this is the case...until now.
According to Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic, the Maple Leafs are one of the many teams that are monitoring the McDavid situation, in preparation for a major offer come July 1st.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are Connor McDavid's hometown team, so it makes sense that he would be interested in coming home to Southern Ontario.
Of course, 31 other teams will be vying for McDavid. Standing out from the crowd will be no easy task, even if you have the advantage of being one of the most historic franchises in hockey.
Ultimately, Connor McDavid has a tough decision ahead of him, and Edmonton Oilers fans are probably feeling a ton of anxiety right about now.
Only time will tell whether or not the superstar remains with his team, or betrays the fanbase in pursuit of that elusive Cup.
