The Greatest Free Agent Signing in Toronto Maple Leafs History is Here
Toronto Maple Leafs fans have some very strong opinions about their team, and when it comes to the franchise's greatest free agent signings, that remains true.
When it comes to free agent signings, the Toronto Maple Leafs have made a lot of them over the years. However, not all of these free agents have panned out.
Thankfully, there are a lot of them who have. In fact, there are a couple of them on the Toronto Maple Leafs right now, and they continue to contribute at a high level.
Recently, The Leafs Nation asked Maple Leafs fans to vote on the greatest free agent in the history of the team. Of course, options included Borje Salming, Curtis Joseph, and even Anthony Stolarz.
However, the fans went with a forward that everyone should have been voting for from the very start. Of course, we are talking about John Tavares.
John Tavares: The greatest Maple Leafs free agent
John Tavares was signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2018, and it proved to be a phenomenal match made in heaven.
Tavares was disillusioned with the New York Islanders and opted to sign for seven seasons in Toronto. He immediately went on to have the best season of his career with 47 goals and 88 points.
Last season, Tavares had an incredible campaign at 34 years old, with 38 goals and 74 points.
The forward was recently signed to a four-year contract extension that actually saved the Toronto Maple Leafs a whole lot of money.
It was a move that will keep Tavares in Toronto until he retires, and fans are certainly excited to have him back for the upcoming long haul.
Only time will tell whether or not Tavares can finally help bring a championship to the city for the first time since 1967.
