The timeout that showed Patrick Roy had lost the Islanders locker room

The score was bad enough in the 4-1 loss to the Flyers. The timeout felt worse, because it looked like a coach talking and a team drifting somewhere else.

Everybody was packed into the huddle, but the scene said plenty. A few Islanders barely looked engaged, and some were turned away while Roy was trying to make his point.

That's the kind of moment front offices don't forget. Systems can be fixed, line combos can change, but a bench that stops listening is usually the last warning.

The timing made it hit even harder.

Roy even took blame after the Flyers loss and said he could have had his club better prepared. When a coach says that in April, the pressure jumps fast.

The clip is rough because the body language is so plain. Sticks stay planted, heads wander, and one small bench huddle somehow feels miles wide.

That's why this didn't feel like one bad timeout. It felt like the moment the split became visible, the second when frustration on the bench turned into proof.

Mathieu Darche didn't hire Roy in the first place, and on Sunday he made the clean break. The Islanders fired Roy and turned to Peter DeBoer with 4 games left.

The move was sharp, but it also fit the slide. New York had gone 3-7-0 since March 19, and the back-to-back losses to the Flyers and Hurricanes shoved the season into danger.

That's the real sting here for Anders Lee, Ilya Sorokin, and the rest of the room. The Islanders weren't buried by talent. They got buried by a bench that looked done taking direction.

And once that shows up in public, a GM usually has one choice. Friday's timeout wasn't the whole story, but it sure looked like the final straw.
