Toronto Maple Leafs Announce Three New Signings
Free agency is ongoing right now, and the Toronto Maple Leafs have made three signings today, although all of them were made with the Toronto Marlies in mind.
If you have been paying attention, you would know that the Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the teams in need of players.
Right now, they are looking for some top-six talent who can play with guys like Auston Matthews and John Tavares. However, this is easier said than done.
Today, the team announced some signings, three to be exact. Fans will be disappointed to know these signings were actually for the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
Toronto Maple Leafs make some moves today
Forward Reese Johnson was re-signed to a one-year deal. Of course, he is a player that the Maple Leafs ended up acquiring from the Chicago Blackhawks.
From there, the team gave a two-year deal to Marc Johnstone, who had previously played for the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.
Lastly, the team signed journeyman goaltender, Ken Appleby, who last played for the Charlotte Checkers and went on quite the run with the team.
These contracts are for the AHL only. If the Maple Leafs wanted to bring them up, then they would have to sign NHL deals, kind of like what we saw with Alex Nylander last season.
Whatever the case may be, these are good depth players for the Marlies, and we look forward to seeing what they can do this season.
As for the Leafs' free agency plans, we hope to see some more signings soon, as fans will not be happy with just this.
The Leafs have a lot of work left to do, and the NHL roster is going to be what's most important going forward.
