The Toronto Maple Leafs have a lot of defensemen right now, and with Brandon Carlo and Chris Tanev looking to return, someone has to be taken out.

With the Toronto Maple Leafs taking on the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight, head coach Craig Berube has decided to make some changes to the lineup.
For instance, Nick Robertson is a healthy scratch alongside Matias Maccelli. Meanwhile, on defense, Philippe Myers was taken out for Dakota Mermis.
Myers has not been great this season, and based on a few factors, it feels as though Myers might be permanently removed from the lineup.
He was already a seventh option at the start of the season, but things are starting to change at a rapid pace, and in a negative direction.

Philippe Myers is out until further notice

Even with Chris Tanev and Brandon Carlo, two right-handed defensemen out of the lineup, Philippe Myers remains a seventh option on the team.
Tanev is on his way back, and Carlo will eventually return as well. Once that happens, Myers could become a ninth option on the roster.
A big reason for this has also been the rise of Troy Stecher, who is quickly becoming the favorite defenseman of Craig Berube.
Below, you can find the lineup from morning skate, which showcases Myers as the odd man out tonight.

Absent: Laughton. *Likely a placeholder

Only time will tell what happens with Myers. All we know right now is that he is out of the lineup, and only injuries will bring him back in.
