Toronto Maple Leafs Encouraged to Claim Waiver Wire Goalie Amid Joseph Woll's Absence
The Utah Mammoth put a goalie on waivers today, and with the Toronto Maple Leafs without Joseph Woll right now, there is an opportunity to be had.
Joseph Woll is currently taking a leave of absence from the Toronto Maple Leafs, and as a result, the team has decided to replace him with Dennis Hildeby.
However, Hildeby's NHL experience is limited, and there were times last season when fans simply were not all that impressed with his output.
With that in mind, there is now a conversation centering around the waiver wire and whether or not the Leafs should look at bringing in another netminder temporarily.
Connor Ingram could be the right goalie for the Toronto Maple Leafs
Today, the Leafs got a bit of a gift, as the Utah Mammoth put goaltender Connor Ingram on waivers.
If he clears, the netminder will go back to the minors. However, a team could pick him up for cheap.
As Anthony Petrielli points out on X, the Maple Leafs would be smart to bring in a guy like Ingram, especially if Woll is going to be out for the better part of a month.
If the Leafs believe Joseph Woll may miss notable time (i.e. most of October or beyond), claiming Connor Ingram would make sense. Has some experience in the NHL with 102 games, has generally been solid-passable, and only makes $800K, which they can fully bury when Woll returns.
For now, we still do not have a timeline on Woll's absence. As a result, it feels more likely than not that the Leafs will simply pass on Ingram.
After all, there are teams like the Edmonton Oilers who are a lot more desperate to bring in an NHL-caliber goaltender.
Only time will tell what is in store for this Leafs team, which is eager to get this season started.
