Toronto Maple Leafs looking to steal another player from rival Boston Bruins
Brad Treliving may be on the lookout for help on forward this summer, potentially someone to play a middle-six role and it appears they may have found a perfect match.
According to Nick Kypreos, the Toronto Maple Leafs may have interest in pending unrestricted free agent forward Jake DeBrusk, with the free agent market opening in 11 days.
"There's word they may have interest in pending Bruins free agent Jake DeBrusk, who's been a Leafs playoff killer over the years." Kypreos said.
In addition to Kypreos' report, Nick Alberga of The Leafs Nation says that over the weekend, he hear that there is mutual interest between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Jake DeBrusk.
"Furthermore, I heard over the weekend that there's actually mutual interest between the Leafs & Jake DeBrusk." Alberga said.
DeBrusk, 27, has been a pain in the Leafs' behind during three series' against them in the Stanley Cup Playoffs - 2018, 2019 and 2024. According to StatMuse, Jake DeBrusk has recorded 14 points (nine goals, five assists) in 21 career playoff games against the Maple Leafs. His biggest playoff game against Toronto came in Game 7 of their first round matchup in 2018 where he scored twice as Boston won the series 4-3.
While Brad Treliving has plenty on his plate at the moment, with both Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi willing to return to Toronto for the 2024-25 season, but the Maple Leafs are still weighing their options and seeing what is best for the future of the team. If Bertuzzi or Domi, or even both, hit the free agent market on July 1st, then it wouldn't be a shock at all if DeBrusk puts pen to paper on a deal with the Maple Leafs.
