The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that forward Calle Jarnkrok underwent groin and sports hernia surgery on Monday and he will remain out of the lineup indefinitely and will be evaluated monthly.
Jarnkrok suffered a setback in his recovery earlier this month that required a visit to a specialist, which has now led to this surgery.
This is a huge blow to the Leafs who have not been able to see Jarnkrok suit up once yet this year. It is yet another setback in what seems to be a season flooded with injuries for this team.
The team is still without their captain Auston Matthews since he left earlier in the month with an injury, and that was followed by Max Pacioretty also being gone from the team for quite some time after hurting himself too.
Last season, Jarnkrok played in 52 games for the Leafs, scoring 10 goals and 11 assists, for 21 points. He was also a plus 16, which proves how solid defensively he was as a two-way forward. Jarnkrok didn't record a single point, however, in seven postseason games.
Calle Jarnkrok is in the third year of a four-year, $8.4 million contract, which consists of an average annual value of $2.1 million.
