Toronto Maple Leafs Make an Official Decision on James Reimer

Last week, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed James Reimer to a PTO, and there were some fans out there hoping that he could beat the odds and make the team.
Earlier today, the Toronto Maple Leafs decided to claim Cayden Primeau off waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes. Due to his status as a waiver claim, Primeau must start the season on the roster.
Unfortunately, this came with some bad news for both Dennis Hildeby and James Reimer. While Hildeby will remain with the Leafs and, by extension, the Marlies, Reimer is gone.
In an official statement on social media, the Maple Leafs confirmed that Reimer has officially been released from his PTO, thus dashing his chances at the NHL.
This is certainly a huge blow for Reimer, who was hoping to get an NHL contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs and keep his playing career going.
With this latest decision, it has become abundantly clear that Reimer is now going to have to work the phones harder than ever to find a taker.
The Maple Leafs are deep at the goaltending position, and the former Leaf veteran just doesn't have what it takes to compete with the younger guys.
Toronto Maple Leafs go with Cayden Primeau
Cayden Primeau was the backup for the Montreal Canadiens last season, and for the most part, he was shaky throughout the season.
However, the Maple Leafs are looking for some NHL experience, and that is exactly what Primeau is able to provide.
Joseph Woll has yet to return from his leave of absence, and at this time, no one really knows when he is going to come back.
Having said that, the Leafs have made their goaltending situation official, and there is nothing else that can be done at this point.
