Toronto Maple Leafs winger William Nylander has missed four games with a lower-body injury, and today, the Leafs were forced to make a very difficult decision.

William Nylander has been one of the best players on the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, even despite having a couple of slumps here and there.
Guys who can get you 41 points in 33 games are hard to come by. Unfortunately, Nylander has been hit by the injury bug and has even missed four straight games.
Today, the Maple Leafs are preparing for a game against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. This morning, the team made an announcement regarding Nylander that is going to be hard to swallow.
Simply put, the defenseman is going on the injured reserve. This appointment is retroactive from December 27th, which is the night he got injured.
This is another blow to the Maple Leafs, who are currently without a plethora of guys right now, including Chris Tanev, Brandon Carlo, and Anthony Stolarz.
As it turns out, the Maple Leafs are also using this opportunity to call up defenseman Marshall Rifai, which tells us that the Jake McCabe injury might not be so good, after all.

What's next for the Toronto Maple Leafs?

This week is going to be a busy one for the Maple Leafs. Tonight, they get to play against the Florida Panthers at home, before traveling to Philadelphia on Thursday to take on the Flyers.
Saturday, the Leafs are back home for Hockey Night in Canada, where they are set to take on the Vancouver Canucks, a team they should be able to beat.
The Leafs find themselves within striking distance of a Wild Card spot; however, they need to keep winning games, which is not easy when all of their guys keep getting injured.
It's going to be a difficult stretch for this team, and they are just going to have to figure out how to get over it.
