Toronto Maple Leafs on the Hook for Millions of Dollars in Signing Bonuses
This offseason is going to be a tough one for the Toronto Maple Leafs, especially in regards to the salary cap and numerous issues involving signing bonuses.
Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has a lot to figure out this summer, and that includes what to do with some of his dead weight at the bottom of the lineup.
In fact, it has been theorized that David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok would be subjected to buyouts for their less-than-stellar contracts.
Kampf has two years left on his deal at $2.4 million per season, and Jarnkrok has one season left at $2.1 million.

However, some relief is coming in the form of signing bonuses, which are to be paid out this summer. In fact, Max Domi is owed $2.5 million, while Kampf and Jarnkrok are both owed $1.325 million.
What's good about this is that now, Kampf and Jarnkrok will have a smaller AAV next season. That means the Leafs don't need to resort to a buyout. Instead, these contracts are very tradeable, and Treliving could look for a team to do business with.
There's a few interesting signing bonuses due this offseason:
Domi $2.5M
Kampf $1.325M
Jarnkrok $1.325M
Remaining salary once bonus is paid:
Domi 3 x $2.5M
Kampf 2 x $1.74M
Jarnkrok 1 x $775k

Overall, these signing bonuses are actually very good news for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and we're sure Treliving will be excited to use this to his advantage.
Having said that, the Leafs have some massive decisions to make over the course of the next few weeks. With July 1st coming up in 29 days from now, things are going to get interesting.
The Leafs want to have as much cap space as humanly possible, and they also want to bolster their offense in time for next season.
Needless to say, Brad Treliving really does have his work cut out for him in every single respect.
