Toronto Maple Leafs ownership is reportedly ruining Brad Treliving's trade plans

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has some big decisions to make at the NHL trade deadline, but it appears as though ownership is getting in the way.
As we have reported over the past few weeks, the Toronto Maple Leafs want to be sellers at the NHL trade deadline.
General manager Brad Treliving believes this is the best way forward, especially when you consider everything the Leafs have been through this season.
This will give the team a chance to retool and get themselves ready for a big Summer, where the expectation will be for the team to make some big moves.
However, going into the NHL trade deadline, it would appear as though the team's ownership is looking to be a bit combative.
Brad Treliving and Maple Leafs ownership
According to a new piece from Nick Kypreos, MLSE and Keith Pelley are gearing up to veto any sort of trade that would make it so that the Leafs can't make the postseason.
Major trades are going to be given a huge pass. If Treliving tries to make one, he will immediately be shot down.
Leafs GM Brad Treliving will continue to entertain calls...but there is a strong sense that Rogers, now the majority owner of the Leafs, has no appetite for making major changes that would jeopardize playoff participation for consecutive years
This is something that a lot of fans are not going to appreciate. At the end of the day, the Leafs need to do something drastic here.
Yet MLSE is not letting that happen, mostly because they are looking to maximize profits in some way. It's sad but ultimately very true.
Only time will tell whether or not Treliving gets done what he needs to, or if the trade deadline ends up becoming a major disappointment.
