Erik Karlsson had 53 points last season, which means at the age of 35, he's still got it. He is a player who can put up numbers and get you some solid production.

However, the big issue with Karlsson these days is the fact that he is playing for a team that isn't very good. The Penguins are a mess, and as a result, he has dealt with trade rumors.

According to some reports, the defenseman be pursued by the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are desperate for offense from their blueline.

Unfortunately for the Leafs, a new report out of Pittsburgh has put a wrench in the Leafs' plans to commit a heist on their former general manager, Kyle Dubas.

According to Chris Johnston, the Penguins are not in a rush to rid themselves of Karlsson. Instead, they want to take their time to get the best package possible.

The Maple Leafs don't have a ton of assets to trade, so it's unlikely that they end up on the right side of the Karlsson rumors.

At the end of the day, bringing in Karlsson is impossible if you keep Morgan Rielly on the roster. Something would have to get done on that front, and Rielly seems unwilling to waive his no-trade clause.
