Toronto Maple Leafs Reportedly Interested in Signing Recently Terminated Two-Time Stanley Cup Champion
The Toronto Maple Leafs are in desperate need of some depth scoring and there is no doubt that recently terminated forward Brandon Saad could provide that for them.
After clearing waivers this past week, the St. Louis Blues and forward Brandon Saad agreed to a contract termination.
The 32-year-old two-time Stanley Cup winner now becomes a free agent and there are many wondering which team he might sign with here going forward.
Toronto Maple Leafs could pursue Brandon Saad
The Maple Leafs' bottom six has been an unmitigated disaster in terms of production this season, so naturally, fans are wondering if this would be a good idea.
Saad is someone who can prove that he can score at the NHL level, with seven goals this season and a total of 16 points.
According to Chris Johnston of TSN, there is actually quite a bit of interest on the part of the Leafs, although there is no telling if they will aggressively pursue it.
If you were to ask David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, going after a guy like Saad is a no-brainer as the Leafs need their depth to wake up.
The team has struggled to get guys to score goals. There are multiple players on this team with less than five tallies all season and that is not acceptable.
The Maple Leafs as a whole have really struggled to score this season, as showcased by their last three games in which they only have a total of three goals.
Something has got to give and it makes sense for the Leafs to take matters into their own hands here and pursue a depth option.
Of course, the trade deadline is also an option but there is no telling how aggressive Brad Treliving is going to be here.
