Toronto Maple Leafs Throw a Curveball with Starting Goalie Against the Montreal Canadiens
With the Toronto Maple Leafs taking on their rival the Montreal Canadiens tonight, fans have been curious as to who the starting goalie would be.
Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll have been splitting the net for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season but with the playoffs on the horizon, a starting goalie has to be named.
As it stands, Stolarz is the obvious choice given how he has performed over the last few games. He is putting up Vezina numbers and Craig Berube is being given no choice.
Tonight, the Maple Leafs start the first half of a back-to-back against the Montreal Canadiens and the Carolina Hurricanes.
The most recent back-to-back saw Woll get the first start and Stolarz get the second. Fans would have assumed this weekend would be the same.
Toronto Maple Leafs name Anthony Stolarz as the starter
However, Berube decided to switch things up knowing that getting a win tonight is very important for winning the Atlantic Division.
Anthony Stolarz will be getting the start against the Canadiens, and it will be Joseph Woll against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Stolarz has a goals-against average of 2.28 and a save percentage of .922 which means he is the perfect goaltender for the upcoming situation.
He knows exactly what he is doing and his games against the Habs this season have come with some solid results. That said, it makes perfect sense for Berube to make this decision.
A win today would do wonders for the Leafs, especially as they just beat the Tampa Bay Lightning a few days ago.
Whatever the case may be, this is a very exciting time of the year and we cannot wait to see what the Leafs are able to do next.
