The Toronto Maple Leafs need to add some players to their roster, although with the free agent market getting thinner than ever, Brad Treliving has his work cut out.

If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, you are probably feeling a bit unsatisfied heading into the season, as the team did not make any big swings.
The market was thin enough as is, and they just weren't able to entice any of the big names that were out there. It's unfortunate, but that is exactly what went down.
Training camp is about to begin in a few weeks from now, and the fans are hoping for the Leafs to make some last-minute moves. General manager Brad Treliving is under duress, but that doesn't mean he's going to pull something off.

Toronto Maple Leafs have limited free agent options

According to James Mirtle of The Athletic, the Maple Leafs know that Matias Maccelli and Nicolas Roy aren't going to cut it.
As a result, they are currently in the midst of looking for a top-six forward that can be placed next to Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies.
The front office is still looking for that upgrade up front. I don't expect Matias Maccelli, [Nicolas] Roy, and Dakota Joshua to be it for forward adds
In a separate report, Johnston contradicted Mirtle, noting that while the Leafs might be able to get themselves some guys for a PTO, a top-six addition is extremely unlikely.
I think the Leafs are nibbling around a lot of different players to see what makes sense. We've seen them bring guys in on PTOs in the past. Most of the off-season work is done for the Leafs at this point. They are still open to seeing if there are fits out there that make sense on both sides.
We've said it a lot, but it bears repeating. Leafs fans need to temper their expectations; otherwise, they will be disappointed.
There are numerous players still out there, but none of them are going to play on the team's first line. Once you accept that, it is easier to move on.
