Earlier this week Toronto Maple Leafs William Nylander was forced to leave a game after an errant play caused by teammate Nick Robertson felled the twenty-eight-year-old right winger. As if fans weren't worried enough, we now understand the injury and how serious it may be.
Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun reported that John Tavares mentioned that Nylander's teammates heard that his injury may not be too serious and that he had been held out as a precaution. By all accounts, he felt it was smart to keep him out just in case.
When head coach Craig Berube was asked about Nylander after the incident and the injury he may have sustained, he was a bit more straightforward and to the point.
While injuries happen and often happen, to have two of your key pieces in Auston Matthews and now Nylander nursing injuries, while cause for concern, nobody should panic quite yet, especially this early. The season is a marathon and not a sprint. Every player on the roster will experience something along the way and provided they aren't too serious, game plans are drawn up so they become manageable and they can be played through.
While it's true that it feels like déjà vu having Matthews and Nylander injured instantaneously and together, the prognosis for both althoughh not exactly known at this time should be that they are hopefully back in time to open the season on October 9th on the road at the Bell Centre in Montreal against the Montreal Canadiens.
