Rick Tocchet has long been expected to make a huge decision this off-season, and now it appears Elliotte Friedman has revealed his future coaching plans as he looks set to move on from the Vancouver Canucks.
After a disappointing 2024/25 campaign that saw them miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs in shocking fashion, questions have been raised about the future of Rick Tocchet as the Head Coach of the Vancouver Canucks.
Reportedly, discussions have been taking place between the two parties in recent times, but according to sources, to keep him around, the Canucks would likely have to make Tocchet one of, if not the highest paid coach in the NHL.
Now, Elliotte Friedman has all but confirmed he will no longer be the Head Coach of the Canucks, with a formal message from Tocchet and the Canucks expected in the very near future.
This would be a major blow for Vancouver, a team that are clearly struggling to find their identity after some major roster changes this past season, and with more expected in the off-season, they'll now need to find a new Head Coach to fit that identity as well.
It's unclear exactly why Tocchet wanted to move on from the Canucks, but with interest likely to come from Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Anaheim and Pittsburgh, he'll have plenty of opportunities in the coming weeks.
For now though, while the team are yet to confirm, the NHL's top insider has all but revealed the future of Rick Tocchet in Vancouver after an up-and-down tenure, and with an exciting summer now set to get even more exciting, 2025 is going to be a huge year of change in the NHL.
