Maple Leafs player admits he isn't happy with Brad Treliving and his roster decisions
Making the NHL is hard enough, but remaining in the NHL is one of the most difficult things any athlete can do. This was supposed to be the year that Nick Robertson transitioned from prospect to everyday player. Unfortunately, due to a lack of production and a remaining waiver eligibility before the deadline Robertson once again found himself assigned to the American Hockey League.
The Maple Leafs didn't require Robertson to play any games with the Marlies, but according to Robertson himself, he still wasn't happy with the teams decision. Due to his limited NHL experience, Robertson did not require waivers and therefore was an easy choice for the team to demote.
Today the Maple Leafs made the decision to recall Robertson and the young player had this to say:
"I understand it but I'm not going to sit here and say that I'm happy. I want to play, but I understand my contract situation. Obviously, if it wasn't the way it was maybe it would be a different situation but it is what it is."

Robertson, 22, has played 41 games this where he's scored 8 goals and added 11 assists. Despite his production in his last three games, he was held pointless and remained rather ineffective.
While it's all right for Robertson to feel this way, it's rather interesting that he would voice his concerns publicly. As a young player he has yet to earn an everyday spot in the lineup but like so many others he seems to think his spot is guaranteed. Reports surfaced in the summer that Robertson had already requested a trade and it's hard to believe he doesn't seek one again this summer. Especially if his ice time doesn't increase.
