Yesterday afternoon, the NHL's Department of player safety made the decision to suspend Vancouver Canucks defender Carson Soucy for one game. The suspension comes on the heels of a cross check to the face of Connor McDavid at the conclusion of game 3. On the play Soucy received a minor for cross checking.
Today, Canucks defender Nikita Zadorov was asked about the suspension and didn't hold back when giving his answer. According to Zadorov the suspension wasn't due to the action and simply was a reaction to the NHL protecting its best player.
They have to protect their investment.. that's my understanding.

At the end of Game 3 Zadorov suffered a cut to his eye after a cross-check from Zach Hyman and when asked by reporters about his stitches Zadorov once again didn't mince words:
«I guess I don't make that much money for the league»
It is rather refreshing to hear a player finally speak his mind and share his true thoughts, but it will be interesting to see if the NHL feels the same way.
