Vancouver Canucks reportedly searching for goaltending help amid recent report on Demko's status
The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly searching for goaltending help amid a recent report on Thatcher Demko's status heading into training camp.
Training camps around the National Hockey League are set to open in a little under a month and on Tuesday, a report came out regarding Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko and his availability after back-to-back knee injuries late in the regular season, and then another he sustained in Game 1 against Nashville.
Rick Dhaliwal of 'Donnie & Dhali' reported on Tuesday that while Demko is progressing in his return from injury, there is no timetable for when he'll be back to 100 percent healthy, which is a bit concerning for the Canucks.
"Well I think his status is very important. You guys know that training camp is around the corner and here we are in mid-August and no one is talking about Demko and what's going on." Dhaliwal said.
He added, "So, what I am hearing on Demko is that he's progressing, but no timetable as to when he's going to be 100 percent healthy."
With Demko's status to start training camp unclear, Dhaliwal went on to say that the Vancouver Canucks are looking at their options on the goaltending market to see if they could bring someone in, potentially on a PTO.
"I wouldn't be surprised if the Canucks continue to poke around the goalie market again, mostly just to protect themselves. Now the Canucks may need insurance just in case, which is a good move on their part. This is the time to talk to player's agents about PTOs." Dhaliwal said.
There are numerous options for Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin to consider on the free agent market, but if they get the sense that Demko won't be ready for the start of the regular season either, then there are two veterans that make the most sense, those being Martin Jones and Antti Raanta.
