After missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2014, changes are expected in Washington. Off the ice, the organization has already named a new head coach, that being Spencer Carbery, after firing Peter Laviolette in April.
According to David Pagnotta and Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period, the Los Angeles Kings have begun to kick tires on Wilson. They added that it's unclear at this time if the Capitals are willing to consider moving him during the offseason.
Wilson, 29, will be entering the final year of his contract in the 2023-24 season which carries a cap hit of $5,166,667, as well as a modified no-trade clause with a seven-team no-trade list.
The Toronto native was only limited to 33 games during the 2022-23 season after he had offseason surgery last summer on his knee, as well as suffering a lower-body injury in late-January. In those 33 games, Wilson performed quite well, putting up 22 points (13 goals, nine assists), 78 penalty minutes and was a minus-13.
