Matvei Michkov May control where he goes in the NHL draft
Once a consensus top 3 pick in the upcoming draft, prospect Matvei Michkov has fallen out of favour with a lot of NHL teams it seems. This mostly has to do with his nationality as most teams want to steer clear of Russian players in this years draft. Between that and the mystery surrounding what happened to his father, coupled with reports that he has an air of entitlement around him, he might fall out of the top 5.
Now, according to Russian Machine Never Breaks, Michkov is trying to make sure he plays for a certain team; take a look.
Russian report says Matvei Michkov most likely to be drafted by Capitals: "You'll see"
According to the report, a representative close to the Capitals said that they intend to take Michkov with their first round pick (8th overall) and that further go a report earlier this week, Michkov doesn't talk to a lot of NHL teams at the direction of his current KHL club, SKA St Petersburg.
If this is true, it's another case of the KHL trying to manipulate Michkov into doing something that they want. This whole thing from start to finish appears to be odd. It doesn't surprise me because it's Russia, but it's odd nonetheless.
A team, especially one overseas should not be able to dictate who a prospect talks to, or gets drafted by, but it looks like that's the case.
