Capitals insider Tarik El-Bashir shared a new development hinting at a potential return for Ovi.
Indeed, he announced that the player was back on the ice with his teammates today for the first time since the injury.
Here's what he posted on X:
The Capitals owner Ted Leonsis revealed at the latest Board of Governors meeting that Ovi was two or three weeks away from a full return, but according to El-Bashir, it could be sooner.
The insider added that this is the most work Ovi has done since the injury, leaving him to think the captain could even travel with the team next week:
El-Bashir also shared Spencer Carbery's comments on Ovi, who talked about the step taken in the right direction in the recovery process:
Ovechkin has already missed ten games due to his injury, but remains at the top of the team in goals, with 15, tied with
Connor McMichael.
The player only needs 26 goals to get to
Wayne Gretzky's goal record. Fans are eager to see if he'll be able to reach it this season despite this major injury setback.
The Caps have been great without Ovi, boasting a 7-2-1 record during his absence. His teammates will look to keep the momentum going tonight as they receive the Buffalo Sabres in Washington.
With a win, the team could increase their lead over the New Jersey Devils in the race for
the Metropolitan Division's top position.
