Before the NHL trade deadline, it seemed almost certain that the Washington Capitals would trade forward Max Pacioretty. With the Capitals playoff hopes fading, it seemed like they would give the veteran an opportunity to compete for a Stanley Cup. However, when the 3:00 p.m. deadline passed, Patches was still a member of the Caps.
Lots of questions surrounded Pacioretty remaining in DC, despite multiple teams rumored to have interest. So why wasn't Pacioretty traded? Well according to Frank Seravalli, it was actually Pacioretty's choice to remain in Washington
Sounds like Pacioretty turned down multiple playoff-bound teams via his no-move clause, wanted to stay close to family and finish what he started this season in Washington coming off the Achilles tears. #allcaps were more than happy with that.
While you have to respect his intention of finishing the season with his teammates. His time in the NHL is likely coming to an end and it would likely mean a lot more to compete for a Stanley Cup. Especially after tearing his Achilles twice over the last 2 years.
In 26 games this season Patches has three goals and twelve assists.
