Tonight the Washington Capitals organization has announced surprising news as one of their defensemen has abandoned the organization in the middle of the season.
At the time of the announcement fans were shocked as Aktell was supposed to be pushing for a roster spot with the Capitals heading into this season while playing in the AHL with
the Hershey Bears.
Unfortunately that plan did not come to fruition as Aktell played 27 games in the AHL but tallied just 9 points.
This led him to decide to leave the Washington Capitals and his dreams of playing in the NHL.
Now a new report has come out confirming where Aktell will be taking his talents to next as he tries to keep his hockey career going.
Former Washington Capitals Defenseman Heads Overseas Signing In Switzerland
According to new reports Aktell will be signing in Switzerland's National League with SC Bern.
This will be Aktell's first time playing in Switzerland during his hockey career after spending most of his time in his native country of Sweden.
Aktell built up his case to be an NHL player with the Vaxjo Lakers in the SHL with who he played three seasons.
At his best Aktell tallied 36 points in 51 games with the Lakers and showed a potential to be a true dual threat as a defenseman.
Despite that success in the SHL Aktell will now begin again on his journey back toward the hopes of making his NHL debut.
