The Washington Capitals are heading into the playoffs as a top seed, but now, they may be without goaltender Logan Thompson due to an injury.

While the story around the Washington Capitals at the moment is all about Alex Ovechkin, this is a team that rolls into the Stanley Cup Playoffs as a major favourite in the Eastern Conference.
However, their optimism may have just taken a major blow, as it has been announced that starting goaltender Logan Thompson will miss some time with what has been noted as a lower-body injury.
Unfortunately, there aren't many details out there as to exactly what's going on, as Head Coach Spencer Carbery defined it as 'missing some time', with the Capitals not willing to reveal whether it's closer to day-to-day or week-to-week.
This season, Thompson has been one of the top goaltenders in the league, tallying an incredible 2.49 GAA and a .910 save percentage while picking up a 31-6-6 record in 43 games played thus far.
While the team still have Charlie Lindgren to take over the starting role, their potential drops immensely without Thompson in the lineup, and with the Stanley Cup Playoffs just three weeks away, this could be a major blow to their hopes.
As a result of the move, the team have recalled goaltender Hunter Shephard from the AHL, and while we don't quite know the timeline on Thompson, Capitals fans will be waiting intently to hear about their star net minder.
However, the Capitals still rank first in the NHL in goals scored per game, so whether Thompson is out for the start of the post-season or not, this is still a team that believes in themselves, so we will now wait and see how this plays out on the eve of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
