Every young player dreams of someday being drafted first overall at the NHL entry draft. Unfortunately for all the players that honor can go to only one player every year. This year, after winning the NHL draft lottery, the San Jose Sharks were given the honor of drafting first overall.
The Sharks were the first team to the podium tonight and made it official that one of the worst kept secrets in the NHL was true. The Sharks made the decision to select Macklin Celebrini first overall, a move that surprised no one.
Celbrini, 18, played last season at Boston University where the center scored 32 goals and added 32 assists in 38 games. The 6-ft center weighed in at 190 lb and is projected to be a can't miss prospect. It is still unclear if Celbrini will transition to the NHL next season or if he plans to return to Boston University for one more year.
This pick solidifies the San Jose Sharks prospect pool and should give fans a lot of Hope going forward as the team looks too finally complete their full rebuild.
