28-year-old NHL defenseman's career likely over due to injuries

An NHL career can be so short, that's why when a player reaches 1000 games in the league it's such an impressive milestone. Since the league's inception in 1917–18 there have been less than 400 players who have reached 1000 games.

It appears another professional hockey career could be over. San Jose Sharks defenceman Markus Nutivaara has a nagging hip injury that has kept him out the entire 2022-2023 season. Nutivarra was only able to appear in one NHL game last season with the Florida Panthers.





Nutivaara had a setback during his recovery after he was injured early in training camp following a Sept. 25 preseason game against the Los Angeles Kings and hasn't played a game since.

The 28 year old signed to a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Sharks last offseason. Nutivaara has played 275 games scoring 17 goals and 71 points.

This will be a sad way for Nutivaara's professional hockey career to come to a close but hopefully he can gain full mobility and enjoy the rest of his life.
