When the Arizona Coyotes announced, they had terminated the contract of Alex Galchenyuk it came as a shock to most people. As further details began to emerge about his arrest, that shock subsided. Many assumed that even without playing a game for the franchise, this was likely the end of Galchenyuk's NHL career.
No team in their right mind was going to give him another chance. Today that news was confirmed as Galchenyuk signed a multi-year contract to continue his hockey career. However, his career will not continue in North America.
This deal take the former 3rd overall pick to the KHL. Given the tension between the KHL and the NHL, it is difficult to see any situation where the KHL would allow this deal to be terminated early. So for at least the next 2 years Galchenyuk will find himself in Europe trying to salvage his hockey career.
