Now that the 2022 NHL Draft is out of the way teams are preparing for free agency to open on Wednesday. One name that will draw a lot of attention is New York Rangers, pending unrestricted free agent forward Andrew Copp. Copp revealed to Rangers General Manager Chris Drury that he intended to test free agency, rather than re-signing with the club.
The Rangers were reported interested in being Copp back, but it appears his asking price is prohibitive. According to Arthur Staple of The Athletic, Copp is seeking a seven year deal with a $5.5 million dollar annual salary. This deal would be similar to the deal the Edmonton Oilers paid to Zach Hyman last summer.
Copp was acquired by the Rangers this past season for prospect Morgan Barron and 3 draft picks. Copp, 27, tallied 21 goals and 32 assists with a plus 15 rating in 72 games between the Jets and the Rangers.
